Harare (New Ziana) – At least 13 staff members and five patients have contracted Covid-19 in the green zone at Parirenyatwa group of hospitals, an official said on Friday.
The green zone is an area where non-Covid-19 patients are admitted.
The latest Covid-19 infections at Parirenyatwa, the country’s biggest referral hospital, has forced the medical facility to re-introduce a one visitor-per-patient restriction.
Parirenyatwa Hospital spokesperson Lainos Dhire confirmed the latest infections.
“Please be advised that we have suspended all the visiting times due to the surge in the number of COVID-19 local infections and increase in reported case within our institution.
“To ensure continued patient support from relatives, only the recorded next of kin shall be allowed in the ward day space for updates on patient’s progress and any other requirements needed for the proper management of the admitted patient,” he said.
Zimbabwe has to date recorded 11 081 Covid-19 cases, including 305 deaths, since the onset of the pandemic in March.
