Harare, (New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (Zimstat) said on Monday it has upgraded its systems to allow for up to date production of inflation data.

Previously, production of inflation data was delayed by a month as it was paper based.

“Zimstat would like to inform users that from January 21, Consumer Price Index will the disseminated in the same month of data collection,” the statistics body said.

“This has been made possible by the adoption of computerisation in data collection and processing. Prior to this, data collection was paper based. As a result, Zimstat was publishing inflation figures 30 days after data collection.”

Production of delayed data was criticised for affecting timely planning.

As at the end of December 2020, Zimbabwe’s annual inflation stood at 348.59 percent, down from 401.66 in November.
