HARARE – Sungura music legend Alick Macheso has been gifted a brand-new vehicle and cash support following a recent road traffic incident that sparked widespread concern and online speculation.
Businessman Wicknell Chivhayo, who has previously made high-profile gifts to public figures, confirmed the gesture, saying it was meant to support the veteran musician after rumours circulated about the severity of the accident and the condition of the vehicle involved.
According to the announcement, Macheso was involved in a minor accident last Sunday but escaped without injuries. Initial social media reports had wrongly suggested that a luxury vehicle previously associated with him was involved, but those claims were later dismissed after confirmation that another older vehicle was in use at the time.
Following the incident, Chivhayo said he had decided to replace Macheso’s vehicle with a brand-new 2026 Toyota Fortuner, which is fully paid for and registered in the musician’s name. He also indicated that additional support, including cash assistance for medical checks, would be provided as part of the package.
In the same gesture, the businessman said members of Macheso’s support team would also benefit, including the musician’s manager, who is set to receive a smaller vehicle and fuel assistance.
Macheso, one of Zimbabwe’s most celebrated performers, is expected to collect the vehicle in Harare in the coming days.
