MBERENGWA – A 34-year-old Mberengwa man experienced a rude awakening when he realised that
not all white garment donning people from the Apostolic Sects are all about prayer after two
suspected members attacked him with a machete, tied him to a tree, and stole his commuter
omnibus.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the two suspected Apostolic Sect members who were
donning white garments, and armed with a knife and machete.

Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the car-jacking case involving
a black Nissan Caravan – registration number AGF 2037 which occurred last Saturday around 8pm at
Batanai area under Chief Ngungumbane in Mberengwa.

It is alleged that the complainant Bright Masukume of Magunge Village received a call from two
unknown men requesting to hire his motor vehicle from Batanai area (Ngungumbane) to Triangle for
a church meeting.

Masukume drove to Batanai where he met two unidentified robbers who were putting on white
garments, upon seeing them he disembarked from the vehicle to finalise the deal.

“The two then turned against him with one of them pointing a knife at the complainant while the
other withdrew a machete from his garment threatening to kill him. They stabbed the complainant
once in the back and he sustained a minor cut.

“They dragged the complainant into a nearby bush where they tied him to a tree using ropes. The
searched complainant and took his Tecno cellphone and passport before driving off in his vehicle,”
said Insp. Mahoko.

Masukume was discovered the following day (November 12 around 5am) by a passerby who untied
him and he reported the matter at ZRP Buchwa.

The police urged the public not to engage in transactions in secluded places during odd hours.
