IN the bustling town of Chiredzi, many residents have embraced the digital age, exploring opportunities for income online. However, with this newfound access comes the risk of falling prey to cunning scammers.

Recently, a disturbing trend has emerged on social media platforms like Telegram, where scammers are actively luring unsuspecting individuals with promises of easy cash through seemingly harmless tasks.

It all starts innocently enough. Scammers create enticing posts, showcasing screenshots of hospitality and tourism pages brimming with positive reviews and vibrant images. They claim that by simply sharing these screenshots, you can earn $0.50 for each one. It sounds too good to be true, and often, it is.

Once you bite the bait, they entice you with a series of tasks. The first task involves submitting these screenshots, and upon completing 24 tasks, you’re promised a deposit into your Ecocash account. But this is where the scam deepens.

After the initial tasks, the scammers introduce a second phase, claiming that to receive your earnings, you must deposit cash into a merchant number they provide. They assure you that upon completion of this task, you will receive five times your deposit. However, the catch is that if you fail to complete the task, you’ll only get half of your money back.

Many residents, eager to make easy money, have fallen victim to this scheme. The reality is that once you send your money to the scammers, it’s nearly impossible to retrieve. The promised returns never materialise, and communication with the scammers abruptly stops.

To protect yourself and your hard-earned money, keep these tips in mind:

    1. *Be Sceptical of Easy Money*: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Scammers often prey on the desire for quick financial gain.
    2. *Research Before Engaging*: Look for reviews and feedback about the service or person offering these opportunities. Genuine businesses have a verifiable online presence.
    3. *Never Send Money to Unknown Sources*: Always be wary of sending money to unfamiliar accounts, especially if the promise of high returns is involved.
    4. *Report Suspicious Activity*: If you encounter suspected scams, report them to authorities or platforms to help protect others.

As Chiredzi residents continue to navigate the online landscape, it’s crucial to remain vigilant against scams. By staying informed and cautious, you can protect yourself from becoming a victim of these deceptive schemes. Remember, if an offer seems too good to be true, it probably is. Stay safe online!
