Bikita (New Ziana) – Three people have been admitted at a clinic in Bikita district after consuming meat from cattle suspected to have died of anthrax, veterinary officials in the area have said.
The trio, all members of the same family, were admitted at Murwira Clinic in Ward 22 of Bikita West.
Veterinary officials said the district appeared to have fallen prey to both anthrax and January disease, with Ward 26 worst affected by the outbreak.
They warned villagers against consuming meat from animals that succumbed to the two diseases and encouraged them to report any outbreak promptly.
Vaccines and drugs to treat cattle were expected, but veterinary officials urged villagers to religiously dip their animals in the meantime.
