Harare, (New Ziana) – A 48-year-old man from Binga has been fined for unlawful hunting following an incident that occurred on January 19, 2025. Emmanuel Mupindu appeared before the Binga Magistrates’ Court, where he was charged under Section 24(1)(b) of the Parks and Wildlife Act Chapter 20:14, according to the National Prosecuting Authority.

Mupindu was accused of illegally hunting three common duikers within the boundaries of Chizarira National Park. The court heard that he used a spear and dogs to carry out the act without obtaining the required permit.

The magistrate imposed a fine of USD 200 on Mupindu and issued a compensation order requiring him to pay USD 3,000 to the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Authority.

Meanwhile, in a harrowing case of sexual violence, two men from Bulawayo were sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment each by the Western Commonage Magistrates’ Court for their involvement in a brutal rape incident.

The court’s decision comes after a thorough investigation into the crime that took place on September 16, 2024.

The offenders, who have not been named, waylaid a female complainant on her way home from school, brandishing a kitchen knife and threatening her life.

They forcibly took her to one of their residences, where one of the men raped her while the other stood guard to prevent her escape.
