Bulawayo, (New Ziana)-Police in Bulawayo have arrested a 32-year-old man from Sizinda high-density suburb in connection with the brutal murder of his 40-year-old brother over an unknown reason.
Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident, identifying the suspect as Artwell Ndlovu and the deceased as Abbie Ndlovu, both from the same household.
According to police, the tragedy happened on May 29 around 11 PM, when the victims’ father left his two sons at home without any apparent signs of conflict.
However, on returning the following morning at around 7 AM, he discovered that his eldest son, Abbie, was lying lifeless in the dining room in a pool of blood.
The body had multiple stab wounds, intestines were protruding from the stomach and a broken arm, indicating a vicious assault.
“The father immediately alerted neighbours, who summoned an ambulance but medical personnel pronounced the victim dead on arrival, and police were called,” said Msebele.
Investigations revealed that the suspect, Artwell, had fled to his elder brother’s residence in Pumula South in an attempt to evade arrest.
Msebele said a multi-unit police team comprising CID Homicide, CID Forensic, Canine Unit, and ZRP Tshabalala officers swiftly tracked him down.
“Upon arrival at the Pumula house, police did not initially locate the suspect but found his blood-soaked clothes hung outside. Moments later, officers spotted him at a distance, prompting a dramatic chase. The suspect attempted to flee by jumping over durawalls, but a police dog apprehended him just metres away from his brother’s home,” she said.
The deceased’s body was transported to the United Bulawayo Hospital (UBH) for a post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
Inspector Msebele issued a stern warning to members of the public against taking law into their own hands, urging them to seek amicable dispute resolution.
“We strongly caution members of the public not to take the law into their own hands. There are peaceful ways to resolve conflicts,” she said.
In a separate but equally disturbing case, police arrested five suspects in connection with an attempted murder case at a Cowdray Park sports bar.
According to Inspector Msebele, the incident occurred on May 31, 2025, around 11 PM, when two complainants aged 33 and 22 were drinking at the bar and later attacked by the suspects.
Chaos erupted when five suspects Brian Ncube (19), Mgcini Xaba, one Fate Tawanda Mupepereki (28), and Simbarashe Chikowore reportedly clashed with other patrons over an undisclosed issue.
“The two victims attempted to intervene and restrain the suspects, but the situation escalated violently. One complainant was stabbed twice in the back, twice on both shoulders, sustaining deep cuts, while the other was struck with a chair, leaving him with a swollen forehead,” Msebele said.
She added that police, acting on a tip-off, arrived promptly at the scene and arrested the suspects on the spot while the injured parties were rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital for treatment.
Msebele warned members of the public against carrying dangerous weapons, saying police will not hesitate those who tamper with laws of the land.
“We urge the public to refrain from violence, especially under the influence of alcohol. Disputes should never escalate to life-threatening confrontations,” she said.
