CCC legislators duck Parly induction

Harare (New Ziana)- Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party legislators on Wednesday boycotted a parliamentary induction session, a day after some of them were recalled and forcibly ejected from the legislature.

The party controversially recalled fifteen of its MPs from parliament
this week, a move some in the CCC claim was done irregularly.

The party has no known leadership nor administrative structures, but one
Sengezo Tshabangu, claiming to be an interim secretary general of the
CCC, recalled the fifteen legislators from parliament.

The move triggered chaotic scenes in parliament on Tuesday as Speaker
Jacob Mudenda announced and effected the recalls.

Most CCC legislators in the August House opposed the recall, and blocked
their colleagues’ ejection, forcing parliamentary authorities to call in
riot police to restore order.

On Wednesday, all CCC legislators boycotted a parliamentary induction
session in protest at the recalls and ejection of the fifteen MPs from
parliament.

The induction sessions, held since Monday, are meant to familiarise the
MPs with their roles, particularly first-time parliamentarians elected
in the general elections in August.

Sources in CCC said the party’s legislators were on Wednesday holding a
caucus meeting in Harare to map the way forward following the recalls.

The move has caught the party unaware, and unprepared, and there early
indications of deep suspicion and recrimination among its members.
