ZIMBABWEAN sprinter Makanakaishe Charamba will line up on Saturday against some of the world’s leading 200-metre specialists when he competes in the Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels, Belgium.
The 24-year-old Olympic finalist enters the season-ending event as the fourth-seeded athlete, having accumulated 24 qualification points during a consistent European campaign.
Charamba secured his place in the final before competing at the prestigious Weltklasse Zürich meeting last week, where he clocked 20.10 seconds to finish fourth.
His performance in Zurich further underlined his growing status on the international sprinting circuit, as he had already secured a historic Diamond League podium finish in Lausanne earlier this season.
The Brussels final will bring together eight of the top performers in the event, setting the stage for a highly competitive race.
Charamba will face Botswana’s Olympic and world champion Letsile Tebogo, South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile, the United States’ Kenneth Bednarek and Courtney Lindsey, Cuba’s Reynier Mena, Canada’s Andre De Grasse, and Puerto Rico’s José Figueroa.
With the season reaching its climax, Charamba will seek to cap his impressive campaign with another strong performance against the world’s best.
His progress this season has provided Zimbabwe with renewed optimism in sprint events, as the young athlete continues to establish himself among the leading names on the international circuit.
