Chibuku Road to Fame provincial finals set for Gokwe

Share

GOKWE’S Leisure Lounge is the place to be this weekend for Zimbabwe’s annual biggest talent
search competition, the Chibuku Road to Fame Midlands finals.
In a public notice, the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (MACZ) said a total 10 groups will battle it
out for the sole ticket to represent Midlands at the national finals set for Glamis Arena in Harare
next month.
This year’s competition is being held under the theme: “Imba Tinzwe! Cula Sizwe Super Star!”
Last year, The Groove Band from Kwekwe, represented the Midlands province and put up a five-star
performance at the Glamis Arena, and settled for the second position which saw them smile back
home with a US$10 000 cheque.
The top prize went to Mashonaland West province-based Afro-fusion and jazz band, Grade 2D which
pocketed US$15 000.
The Chibuku Road to Fame is Zimbabwe's largest grassroots talent identification programme run by
Delta Beverages through their Chibuku brand in conjunction with the National Arts Council of
Zimbabwe (NACZ).
Gweru-based Afro-fusion group, The Travellers, made Midlands proud when it won the 2017 top
prize after shrugging off competition from other provincial winners.
Since its inception in 2001, Chibuku Road to Fame has been the leader in unearthing the gems that
are expected to dazzle the local music industry. Winners are given monetary prizes and recording
contracts.
The competition has identified, nurtured and brought to light talent from all parts of the country
that could have gone unnoticed.
The Groove Band, last year recorded songs that have an impact on the socio-economic way of life.
