MARONDERA- Police in Mashonaland East recently arrested a 30-year-old man from Mungate Village which is under Chief Chinamhora in Goromonzi for raping a 12-year-old girl who was on her way from school.

Allegations are that before raping the girl, the suspect produced a knife and threatened to stab her if she made any noise that would alert people.

Deputy police spokesperson for Mashonaland East Province, Assistant Inspector Misheck Denhere confirmed the incident.

He said the suspect raped the girl once before disappearing from the scene.

The matter came to light on January 18 this year when the girl narrated her ordeal to her teacher at one of the schools in Domboshawa.

The teacher then informed the girl’s mother and a report was made to the police leading to the arrest of the suspect three days later.

Meanwhile, in a related matter, it is reported that a 13-year-old girl at one of the schools in Hwedza was allegedly raped in a bushy area on her way from school.

It is reported that the incident occurred in December last year and facts of the matter, as confirmed by Assistant Inspector Denhere, are that the suspect aged 29 who is believed to be a neighbour to the girl met her on way from school.

He then raped her once before allegedly producing a knife and threatening to stab her if she ever revealed the incident to anyone.

“The girl did not reveal the matter to anyone until such a time when she visited her mother who stays at Hwedza Growth Point. She narrated her story to her mother and a report was made to ZRP Hwedza who attended the scene on January 17 2024,” Assistant Inspector Denhere said.
