Chinhoyi hospital staff contract Covid 19

Chinhoyi (New Ziana) – A number of Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital staff have contracted Covid-19, a situation which has affected some operations at the medical facility, an official has said.

Mashonaland West acting provincial medical director, Gift Masoja, said the staff mainly affected those who worked in the theatre department and student nurses.

The hospital is a referral medical facility for the entire province, and caters for thousands of patients from all over Mashonaland West.

“The most affected are those in the theatre and student nurses. I have since advised the doctors on the ground to use other alternative places within the hospital to provide services to the people,” Masoja said.

The number of affected staff could not, however, be established.

The country is currently gripped by the second wave of the pandemic, with a more deadly strain thought to have originated from South Africa.

Both infection rates and deaths have spiked this month to record levels inspite of the imposition of a stricter lockdown by the government.

This week alone, the country lost two ministers to Covid 19, and several other top officials.
