Chinhoyi Stars coach sets new record

Share

CHINHOYI – CHINHOYI Stars newly appointed coach, Clayton Mudekwa, has achieved
wonders for the community owned team.

Mudekwa become the first coach for Chinhoyi Stars to achieve the club target with an
entertaining match on the last game of the season.

The match ended with a 6-1 score line after Come Again visited Chinhoyi on the two
side’s season last game.

Come Again was supposed to fight for at least a draw for them to survive relegation, but
they were humiliated by a huge margin.

Chinhoyi Stars were relegated in 2018 after they failed to achieve their own target,
which was to avoid the chop. The coach, who was in charge then, was Newman
Mashipe, who later went on to join the now defunct Mushowani Stars.

In 2019 Chinhoyi Stars played Division Two soccer and they managed to return to
Division One. The following year they could not kick the ball due to Covid-19.

The following year, 2021, the team played badly as underdogs in Division One when
Munyaradzi Charuza was the head coach. They managed to survive the chop at the last
minute, but it was a puzzle for one to see clearly how the team survived.

Chinhoyi Stars appointed former Chegutu Pirates Coach, Richard Chunga, who left the
team in trenches after they lost nine games in three months.

The team executive dismissed Chunga’s assistant coaches, Munyaradzi Charuza and
Aleck Kambabaira, accusing them of failing to add value to their technical bench but the
head coach also faced the music few games after the duo’s departure.

The newly appointed coach, Mudekwa managed to win three games, drew one and lost
one match out of the five games when he took charge.

His last game against Come Again elevated Chinhoyi Stars to the top 10, which was
their season target. The match attracted more supporters, who then continued to
support the team up to the end.
