Zimbabwe Warriors goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze will remain with South African side Magesi FC despite the club’s relegation from the Betway Premiership at the end of the 2025/26 season.

The veteran goalkeeper had been linked with a move away from the Limpopo-based outfit as he looked set to continue playing top-flight football, but Magesi’s newly appointed coach Kabelo Sibiya has confirmed that Chipezeze is part of the club’s plans for the upcoming National First Division campaign.

Sibiya said the club was still finalising contractual matters with some players but singled out the Zimbabwean shot-stopper as one of the players expected to stay.

“I am not at liberty to announce the players. There are still some players with contractual discussions going on,” Sibiya was quoted as saying.

“I was just mentioning Chipezeze because he is one of the players that we will be retaining. For others, the club will make a statement at the right time in terms of who is staying with or leaving.”

Chipezeze has been a key figure for Magesi since joining the club from Baroka FC in 2022.

The 40-year-old goalkeeper played a major role in Magesi’s rise to the South African top flight in 2024 and was instrumental in their historic Carling Knockout Cup triumph, where he produced outstanding performances throughout the tournament.

He was named Man of the Match in every game of the competition, including the final when Magesi stunned reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

The former Baroka and Chicken Inn goalkeeper’s decision to remain at Magesi is expected to provide stability as the club begins its campaign to return to the Premier Soccer League.
