Chipinge (New-Ziana)-Police detectives in Chipinge town, Manicaland province, recently arrested two suspected housebreakers who had been terrorizing local residents and recovered goods worth more than ZW$116 000.00.

Chipinge District police spokesperson Detective Assistant Inspector Tarusenga Chikuwadze identified the suspects as Tinashe Munandi (23) of Maunganidze village under Chief Mutema and Wisdom Mtisi (20) of Bosclof Business Centre in the same area.

The two are facing seven counts of unlawful entry into premises and four of theft from motor vehicles where they allegedly stole batteries, groceries, blankets, mattresses, a motor bike and kitchen utensils.

“Following a spate of unlawful entry into premises and theft from motor vehicles cases in Chipinge town where criminals were breaking door locking systems to gain entry and smashing motor vehicle windows, detectives carried out an operation to bring the culprits to book,” said Chikuwadze.

He said on April 9 this year detectives received information that the two suspects were selling stolen property in Chipinge town.

The detectives reacted to the information and arrested the pair leading to the recovery of stolen property that included batteries, blankets, a motorbike, and kitchen utensils.

“As police, we would like to warn members of the public to desist from buying goods and properties without proper verification. It is an offence under section 125 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform Act) to buy stolen property.
