Harare, (New Ziana) — A local church-affiliated organisation, Legacy Builders Global Hub, has embarked on a nationwide entrepreneurship drive to help reduce poverty and promote self-reliance, especially in marginalised communities, an official has said.

In an interview with New Ziana, Bishop Dr. Aderino Nyabanga, President of Legacy Builders Global Hub said the organisation is conducting free business seminars across the country, teaching participants practical ways to start small businesses using locally available resources and personal talents.

He said the initiative was inspired by the President’s call for inclusive national development and empowerment.

“When the President talks about leaving no one and no place behind, he is reminding us that whether educated or not, everyone can use their brains and hands to do something productive,” said Dr Nyabanga.

He said the programme seeks to change mindsets by encouraging people to become job creators rather than job seekers.

“We are urging Zimbabweans not to sit on their laurels complaining about unemployment or lack of capital. Start small — with what you have — and one day you will grow,” he said.

Through the seminars, participants are taught practical business ideas such as gardening, weaving, sewing, and baking. Rural communities are also encouraged to venture into low-cost projects like poultry, piggery, fish farming, and small livestock production, which require minimal capital outlay.

So far, the initiative has covered Jerera, Zaka, Chiredzi, Harare, Bulawayo, Gweru, and Kwekwe, with upcoming sessions scheduled for Beitbridge and Mutare. The team often collaborates with local leaders, including councillors and Members of Parliament, who invite them to train residents in their constituencies.

“For a country to develop, its people must work hard. Empowerment through business not only lifts families out of poverty but also reduces social ills such as drug abuse among the youth,” said Rev Dr Nyabanga, speaking ahead of their next workshop in Ward 23, Goromonzi this Friday.

The programme also involves professionals from leading corporates such as Old Mutual, Botle Buhle Brands, Empower Bank, and EcoCash.

“We partnered institutions like Empower Bank because many people struggle to access financing. After our sessions, participants can take advantage of these partnerships to apply for business loans,” Nyabanga explained.

He also highlighted the crucial role of the church in driving development, noting that with about 70 to 80 percent of Zimbabwe’s population being Christian, religious institutions have a powerful influence in promoting empowerment and entrepreneurship.

“Church leaders can help spread this message faster because their congregants believe in them. The church can therefore play a key role in building the nation,” he said.
