Church members get presidential agric inputs

Harare (New Ziana) – Different church members in Harare were on Thursday given Pfumvudza/Intwala farming inputs for the forthcoming summer cropping season.

Among other things, the church members were given roadrunner chicks, fertilizer and maize seed under the programme, which is meant to ensure household food security.

Melody Tapera, director of economic affairs and investment in the Harare Metropolitan province, handed over the inputs on behalf of provincial Minister, Charles Tavengwa.

“The Pfumvudza program is being implemented using a multi stakeholder approach that ensures that every citizen is involved regardless of gender, age, or religion,” she said.

The Pfumvudza/Intwasa program has trained more than 15, 000 people in Harare, whom the government is targeting to assist with farming inputs during the season.

The Zimbabwe Council of Churches and Pastors4ED praised the government for empowering the church members, saying this would help them ensure food security.

Nobert Mangwiro, one of the beneficiaries of the roadrunner chicks, said: “I am pleased, this shows that we have power to build our own country and I can clearly see the vision of President Emmerson Mnangagwa of attaining an upper middle-income economy (by 2030).”

Echoed Tindozari Muchingami, another beneficiary: “We are very grateful to the Minister, and hope that they also do the same to other church members.”

Beneficiaries of the Presidential Inputs are urged to prepare their land as prescribed by their farming extension officers, and desist from selling the inputs.
