COLLEN BAWN – Fifty-six women from the Church of Christ gathered for a two-day Conference in Collen Bawn, where they received practical training on legal rights, family welfare and personal empowerment, reinforcing the importance of collaboration between the Church and Government in community development.
Held under the theme, “Women of Faith, Walking with God in All Seasons,” the conference combined spiritual encouragement with practical knowledge aimed at strengthening women, families and communities.
Facilitators from the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (MWACSMED) and Gwanda-based legal practitioner Advocate Mitchell Chigova led interactive sessions covering marriages and common misconceptions surrounding marriage in Zimbabwe, children’s rights focusing on maintenance, custody and access, women’s property rights, and estate planning.
The organisers said the training sought to equip women with the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions, protect their legal rights and contribute meaningfully to the development of their families and communities.
Speaking after the conference, Church of Christ Evangelist Dr. Pick Nkomwa expressed gratitude for the successful programme and commended the Government officials for partnering with the Church in empowering women.
“We sincerely thank the Government officials who willingly shared their knowledge and expertise with our women. They have equipped them with practical information that will strengthen families and improve communities. This conference has demonstrated that when the Church and Government work together, lives are transformed and communities become stronger,” he said.
Dr. Nkomwa reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to supporting Government initiatives that promote sustainable development and the empowerment of women.
“The Church of Christ remains ready to work hand in hand with Government and other stakeholders in all lawful and meaningful development initiatives that empower women, strengthen families and improve community livelihoods.
Spiritually grounded, informed and economically empowered women are an asset to the Church, the nation and future generations,” he said.
He also thanked God for the success of the conference and applauded all participants, organisers and partners whose contributions made the event possible.
Dr. Nkomwa encouraged the women to put into practice the knowledge gained, using it to build stronger families, promote justice and become agents of positive change within their communities.
The conference reflects the growing partnership between faith-based organisations and Government institutions in advancing women’s empowerment, promoting family rights and fostering inclusive community development through education, awareness and collaboration.
