REDCLIFF – The government, which is pursuing with its dream of achieving vision 2030, says a clean
environment is a strong anchor for a growing economy.
Acting President Constantino Chiwenga said Vision 2030 can only be achieved if Zimbabweans
prioritise sustainable environmental management by working in unison.
“A clean environment will be a strong anchor for a growing economy. We need to work in unison to
propel our economy to greater heights while also promoting environmental stewardship,” said the
acting President in a speech read on his behalf by Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality
    Minister, Mangaliso Ndlovu,
He said Zimbabwe will continue with its journey towards achieving a clean, safe and healthy
environment as enshrined in the Constitution.
“A clean environment coupled with vast natural resources that we have in our country will surely
drive our country to greater heights. However, this can only happen if we utilise natural resources in
a sustainable manner and ensure that wastes is handled in a manner that does not lead to pollution.
“Let us guard our natural capital jealously and work towards promoting a circular economy,” Dr.
Chiwenga, who is also the Health and Child Care Minister said.
Midlands province is endowed with vast natural resources and is home to a large number of
artisanal miners, who patronise leisure spots in business centres.
Most of these business centres, the acting President said, are characterised by high volumes of
    wastes especially beverage packaging.
He urged the business community to work hard to match the rate at which waste is generated at
    these business centres.
Dr. Chiwenga called upon local authorities to install waste management infrastructure at all service
    centres.
He urged the business community and corporates to work together with local authorities in setting
up waste management infrastructure, especially waste recycling cages.
Dr. Chiwenga commended Redcliff municipality for installing 51 skip bins in residential areas and the
local authority is working towards procuring more bins as a way of improving service delivery.
“More so, the public private Partnership that exist between Redcliff Municipality and the local
companies in waste management should be commended.
“This is best practice across the world where private companies make a deliberate strategy in their
planning processes to ensure a clean, safe and healthy environment through reducing their carbon
footprint, reduction in carbon emissions and embracing extended producer or distributor
    responsibility,” he said.
