Harare (New Ziana) – Commuter omnibus operators have been given the freedom to ply any route of their choice on Saturday provided the permit for their designated routes are valid to allow revellers easy unfettered travel to this year’s Zimbabwe Republic Police Commissioner-General funfair.
National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the Commissioner of Road Motor Transportation under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has granted the route waiver for commuter omnibus to enable smooth travel of revelers to and from Mkushi Police Academy (formerly Morris Depot) where the funfair is to be held.
The funfair, which starts at 7am and ends at 9pm, is part of the police’s social responsibility activities meant to raise funds for the Commissioner General’s welfare fund which is supporting over 200 disadvantaged children countrywide with uniforms, school fees and other requirements.
The fund supports children from primary school through to tertiary education and has since produced some graduates that have been assimilated into industry and commerce in different parts of the country.
Meanwhile, police last week arrested a truck driver, Edison Kazingizi (29) at Beitbridge Border Post in connection with the possession of 48x100ml of Benlyin Codeine, 50x100mls Adyco Salterpyn and 40x100ml Broncleer Cough syrup which were found hidden in the MNH truck he was driving as he transported drums of oil from South Africa.
In Masvingo, Ammon Mataruse (27), Tinashe Matore (19) and Tatenda Mahachi (30) were arrested by police after they were found with 15 twists of dagga, 3x100ml Adcor Salterpyn, 3x100ml Stilpane Cough Syrup, 3×100 Benlyin Cough syrup and 3x100ml Broncleer Cough Syrup.
Also arrested in connection with drug dealing were Deon Nyakuremba of Glendale who was found in possession of 15 sachets of dagga, two twists of dagga, one bottle of Benylin Cough Syrup, two bottle of Adcor Salterpyn Syrup and one bottle of Histalix, and Tinotenda Rusere for offering the police a US$70 bribe to release Nyakuremba from police custody.
