A GOKWE grandmother who captured the hearts of social media users with her humorous birthday wish has received a surprise birthday cake from Eddy Customs Clearing and Forwarding (Private) Limited.
The grandmother recently went viral after she was spotted in Mvurwi celebrating President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s birthday, where she jokingly expressed her desire to also have a slice of the birthday cake.
Her cheerful personality and heartfelt remarks attracted widespread attention, prompting the Harare-based customs clearing and vehicle import company to step in and make her wish come true.
The gesture was particularly meaningful to one of the company’s representatives, who said he was born and raised in Mateta 2, kwaManoti, in Gokwe.
“Gogo vedu havafanire kusara!” the company said, emphasising the importance of caring for elders and remembering one’s roots.
Eddy Customs said the gesture went beyond business, reflecting the company’s commitment to showing love, respecting elders and giving back to communities.
Established in November 2018, Eddy Customs Clearing and Forwarding (Private) Limited is a Zimbabwean company specialising in customs clearance, freight forwarding and vehicle imports.
Founded and directed by Edward Winston Chitsvariwa, the company is headquartered in Harare, with a regional presence extending to South Africa and Zambia.
Despite its operations in the transport and logistics sector, Eddy Customs demonstrated a different side of its corporate identity through the birthday gesture, placing community values and human connection at the centre of its intervention.
The gesture has been welcomed by social media users, who praised the company for spreading joy and demonstrating the spirit of Ubuntu.
