Harare (New Ziana) – President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Wednesday said the death of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Lieutenant General Sibusiso Moyo (RTD) had robbed the country of a dedicated public servant.
Moyo died in the early hours of Wednesday morning from COVID-19.
In a post on twitter, President Mnangagwa said: “It is with a heavy heart that I announce foreign minister Dr SB Moyo has died. Zimbabwe has lost a devoted public servant and a true hero and I have lost a friend. He fought his entire life so that Zimbabwe could be free. May he rest in peace.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade also took to twitter to mourn the late Minister.
“Today we mourn the passing of Foreign Minister SB Moyo. We remember him as a man who fought tirelessly for a better Zimbabwe.
“His humour, good grace and devotion to public service will be greatly missed by everyone here at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. May God rest his soul,” the Ministry said.
The Chinese embassy in Zimbabwe also mourned Moyo, whom it described as a “dear friend.”
“The Chinese embassy in Zimbabwe is deeply saddened by the passing of Hon Lt General Dr SB Moyo. Dr Moyo has been a dear friend to China and a strong supporter of the deep friendship between China and Zimbabwe. His outstanding contribution to the excellent relations between the two countries will be forever remembered.
“In this sorrowful time we extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and to the government and people of Zimbabwe. May our condolences bring you peace during this painful time. China continues to stand strong with Zimbabwe to overcome the pandemic and all the challenges that may come our way in the years to come,” the Chinese embassy said.
The Dutch embassy described Moyo as a champion of Zimbabwe’s re-engagement agenda.
“Ambassador @bvanhellemond and the embassy staff send condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Minster SB Moyo. The re-engagement process between Zimbabwe and the world has lost its champion.”
Agriculture, Lands and Rural Resettlement deputy Minister Vengelis Haritatos said he was shattered by the death of Moyo.
“I am shattered to say the least. We have lost yet another great Zimbabwean to this deadly evil virus
Thank you for all you have done for Zimbabwe. Your work will not go in vain. We will make Zimbabwe great, brick by brick,” he said.
Industrialist, Busisa Moyo said: “Rest in Christ my name sake. A big loss to the Moyo clan. A bigger loss to the country. You believed in young people and making Zimbabwe work.”
Moyo died at a private hospital in Harare where he had been admitted.
