Decorated military commander Moyo laid to rest

Harare (New Ziana)-The late decorated military commander Brigadier General Collin Moyo (retired) who died last Friday was on Tuesday laid to rest at the National Heroes Acre amidst calls for citizens to emulate him.

Addressing mourners at the burial, Acting President Kembo Mohadi said it was the desire of the Second Republic to build and transform the Zimbabwean economy.

“In our quest for economic emancipation as we embark on the National Development Strategy 1, it is incumbent upon us that we take a leaf from such cadres like the late Brig General Moyo,” he said.

“This economic war needs no guns but a people with a focused, transformed, diligent and productive mindset. Armed with a positive, winning mindset we can make the economy tick once again,” he added.

Acting President Mohadi said the late Moyo, like many who went through military training, did not learn for the sake of learning, but acquired knowledge and skills.

“This is why our universities are moving towards the industrialisation and transformation of our communities,” he said.

He said the nation was slowly losing the founding crop of veterans of the armed struggle who leave behind an illustrious trail of gallant efforts made to win the freedom all citizens now enjoyed.

“The late Brig Gen Moyo excelled in all assignments and always led from the front. He continued to be exemplary and inspired many young to be recruits to a life of committed patriotism. He will be remembered for the Zipra operations at Mana Pools Camp and Nkume Base attack,” he said.

Acting President Mohadi said the country remained obliged to observe World Health Organisation protocols on burials to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“Whilst the late hero did not die of Covid-19, we are cognisant as a nation of the importance of the prevention of the spread of the virus by strict observance of the restrictions, regulations and the WHO protocols,” he said.
