Devolution projects commissioned in Mash East

MARONDERA- The Second Republic, has been commended for allocating devolution funds to local authorities in Mashonaland East over the years as that has resulted in several projects being commissioned in districts.

The funds are being directed to boost social services that include new boreholes, rehabilitation of boreholes, construction of classroom blocks, science laboratories, drilling rigs, tipper trucks, tractors, backhoe loaders, purchase of ambulances, clinic construction and water reticulation equipment and infrastructure.

At least 30 projects that were funded by devolution funds were commissioned in the province. Projects that have already been commissioned include the Hwedza Government Composite block, the 100-hectare Saparanyambuya irrigation scheme, Chivhu and Rwenya Dams, among others.

The 141km of the Hare-Chivhu highway have been completed and opened to traffic on the Mashonaland East side while the Dombotombo-Chikomo walk-up flats are almost complete.

Dr Munzverengwi, who is the Minister of Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution, said in her address when the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs in the Office office of the President and Cabinet Lovemore Matuke held his familiarisation meeting in Marondera last week that her province had greatly benefitted from devolution funds. She however appealed for the funds to be speedily disbursed so that projects can be implemented in time.

The meeting was attended by senior Government officials at both provincial and national levels and members Zanu PF party.

“This session is coming on the backdrop of not only socio-economic development in this province but also as a signpost to the achievement of our provincial mandates on devolution programs and projects implementation and commissioning. The fact remains that all our provincial operations are aligned to the National Development Strategy-1 (NDS-1) 2021-2025 and towards the future we all desire as encapsulated in our national mantra, Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo.”

“Mashonaland East province is doing wonders since the coming in of the New Dispensation led by President Mnangagwa. I am happy to inform you that the directors, deputy directors, local authorities, thematic committee chairpersons and heads of Government departments are hard-working and are inspired by the spirit of teamwork. That has resulted in the commissioning of several projects across the province,” Dr Munzverengwi said.

She applauded President Mnangagwa’s Government for fulfilling the constitutional provisions of allocating devolution funds to the province as this has been a game-changer to the socio-economic development of Mashonaland East.

Dr Munzverengwi said following reports received from various Provincial Development Committee (PDC) thematic committees in the first quarterly meeting of this year, the province will be rejuvenated, refocused, reinvigorated, sharpened and refreshed as the province remains emboldened by the national development philosophy “Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Inovakwa, Inotongwa, Inonamatirwa Nevene Vayo”
