MUTARE- Government officials from the Department of Disability Affairs under the Ministry of Public
Service, Labour and Social Welfare last week went through capacity building training on disability
    inclusive concepts.
This comes after it was realised that persons living with disabilities continue to face barriers in their
everyday life hindering them to fully participate in society.
United Nations Partnership on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNPRPD) national project
coordinator, Ms Memory Zulu said the trainings sought to support Government through the Department
of Disability Affairs in addressing the preconditions that were essential for the effective implementation
of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CPRD) at national level.
“Part of this support to the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare includes building the
capacity of its staff on the CRPD, disability inclusion concepts so that they in turn effectively capacitate
and support the 21 Government line ministries as well as the MOPSLSW’s SDG coordination committee
    on disability-inclusion,” she said.
The trainees who include chief executives of local authorities, heads of Government departments and
organisations for people living with disabilities are expected to impart the knowledge gained to the
    people in their respective communities.
Ms Zulu also said the training is aimed at capacitating and ensuring Government institutions and
services were equipped with information on laws against discrimination of persons with disabilities by
taking into account their rights in all policies and programs.
Disability mainstreaming is also in accordance United Nations Convention on the Rights on Persons with
Disabilities (CRPD) which provides a roadmap for disability inclusion on which most countries including
    Zimbabwe have signed or ratified.
