Harare, (New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested a 33 year old woman and her 32 year old male accomplice for allegedly selling fake automotive and construction products in a significant move to combat the sale of counterfeit goods.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of Selina Nyurwa and Ashley Kasambarara following a targeted operation by the Harare License Inspectorate.
The arrests came after the police received credible intelligence about a foreign-owned company operating along Bristol Road in Workington and at the corner of Bank Street and Harare Street.
The company was reportedly selling counterfeit brake fluid and prime bond silicon, products critical to vehicle safety and construction integrity.
Acting swiftly on the tip-off, police officers raided the premises, leading to the recovery of a staggering 593 boxes of counterfeit brake fluid, containing 16 849 individual units, as well as 88 boxes of fake prime bond silicon, comprising 8 800 units.
“The seized products, with an estimated street value running into thousands of dollars, were allegedly being sold to unsuspecting consumers and businesses,” said Com Nyathi.
Substandard brake fluid can lead to vehicle malfunctions, potentially causing accidents, while fake construction materials can compromise the structural integrity of buildings.
Com Nyathi warned individuals and companies engaged in the production, distribution or sale of counterfeit goods that the long arm of the law will catch up with them.
The trade in fake products has long been a concern for authorities, as it not only harms legitimate businesses but also endangers consumers.
