Harare (New Ziana) -The potentially explosive Castle Lager Premier Soccer league match pitting the country’s biggest teams and perennial bitter rivals, Dynamos and Highlanders slated for this weekend at Barbourfields stadium in Bulawayo has been postponed as the two giants will be playing in the Independence Cup match on 18 April in Mt Darwin, Mashonaland Central province.

In a press statement on Wednesday, PSL communications liaison officer Kudzai Bare confirmed that the participation of two teams in the Independence trophy tournament had necessitated the move.

“Please be advised that the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match between Highlanders FC and Dynamos FC scheduled to be played on Saturday 15 April 2023 has been postponed,” she said.

“This comes following a directive from the Sports and Recreation Commission for the teams to participate in the Independence Day activities which will commence on the 16th of April 2013.”

The archrivals are pencilled to lock horns in the historic Uhuru celebrations at Mt Darwin High School where a bumper crowd is expected to throng the venue, with some seeing the clubs for the first time.

Other die-hard supporters of the two teams are also expected to travel from Harare and beyond to watch the grudge encounter.

Government spokesperson who is also the Minister of information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Monica Mutsvangwa, recently announced that the match would take place in Mt Darwin, the venue of the celebrations as part of ground-breaking commemorations in the province, in line with the Second Republic’s drive towards the promotion of national unity, devolution and decentralisation.

The celebrations will be held under the theme: “Zim@43:Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo/Ilizwe Lakhiwa Ngabanikazi Bayo”
