Econet Wireless Zimbabwe has revised the line-up for its upcoming Buddie Beatz Concert, with South African music duo Mafikizolo no longer part of the event following widespread public calls for their removal amid the ongoing anti-immigrant crisis in South Africa.
The move comes days after sections of the public urged the telecommunications giant to cancel or postpone the concert, arguing that it was inappropriate to feature South African artists while Zimbabweans living in South Africa continue to face uncertainty due to the escalating tensions.
A newly released promotional poster for the event confirms a revised line-up headlined by Zimbabwean music stars Winky D, Killer T and Flying Bantu. The entertainment bill will also feature DJs Sfiso, CeeJay and Chiweddar.
Despite the change in performers, the concert will still be held on 5 July 2026 at Baobab Primary School in Victoria Falls, with proceedings scheduled to begin at 6pm.
The exclusion of Mafikizolo follows sustained public pressure on social media, where many Zimbabweans questioned the inclusion of South African acts while foreign nationals, including Zimbabweans, continue to be affected by the unfolding crisis across the border.
Many had argued that companies should prioritise humanitarian support for affected Zimbabweans and expressed disappointment that some South African entertainers had not publicly condemned the attacks on foreign nationals.
While Econet has not publicly explained the decision to alter the line-up, the updated poster signals that the company has responded to concerns raised by members of the public.
The Buddie Beatz Concert will now showcase an all-local headline line-up, with fans expected to be entertained by some of Zimbabwe’s leading musicians and DJs.
