Harare, (New Ziana) – Education took the largest chunk of the ZWG 276 billion 2025 national budget the Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube presented in Parliament on Thursday.
Presented under the theme, ‘Building Resilience for Sustained Economic Transformation’ the budget is expected to spur economic growth to six percent in the New Year while workers will pocket more after the tax-free pay threshold was revised to ZWG2 800.
It is also expected to anchor the stability of the domestic currency, Zimbabwe Gold, (ZWG) whose introduction in April 2024 at the official exchange rate of US$1: ZWG13.5 and US$1: ZWG14 managed to stabilise prices before some turbulence experienced in September forced the authorities to devalue the currency to US$1: ZWG24 where it currently trades at. Currency trading on the parallel market ranges between US$1 : ZWG40 and US$1: ZWG35.
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education received ZWG46 638 million, bringing the education sector’s total allocation to ZWG56 961 million when Higher and Tertiary Education is included.
Health was allocated ZWG28 323 million, agriculture got ZWG22 935 million, Defence, ZWG18 051 million, Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage ZWG16 183 million, Office of the President and Cabinet ZWG10 567 million and Finance got ZWG9 183 million.
