Equatorial Guinea delegation meets President Mnangagwa

Harare (New Ziana)-A special delegation led by Equatorial Guinea Foreign Affairs Minister Simeon Oyono on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on President Mnangagwa at State House to deliver a special message from his counterpart President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.

Oyono is leading a 10-member delegation from Malabo, which includes the Minister of Finance, Cesar Mba and the Minister of Mines Gabriel Obiang Lima.

Speaking to journalists after meeting President Mnangagwa, Oyono said Equatorial Guinea hopes to take existing bilateral ties to new heights.

“We enjoy cordial relations since we belong to the same groupings like the African Union and the United Nations where we support each other. We are here to find a way of diversifying our relations in a way that will be of interest and will benefit the peoples of our two countries.

“We are here to look at areas where we can strengthen the ties and particular focus will be on tourism, mining and agriculture,” he said.

Ties between Harare and Malabo were strengthened in 2004 when Zimbabwe foiled an attempted coup by mercenaries to topple President Nguema and replace him with exiled opposition leader and Spanish-based Severe Moto.

Equatorial Guinea also assisted Zimbabwe with a fuel importation facility of US$200 million during the hyperinflation period.
