First Lady’s women empowerment programme kicks off in Harare

Share

Harare (New Ziana) – An empowerment training programme spearheaded by First Lady Auxilia Mnangagwa for wives of uniformed officers was launched in Harare on Thursday.

Participants in the training are drawn from all over the country, and were being taught, among other things, how to manufacture washing detergents such as dishwashers, toilet cleaners and petroleum jelly.

The training is meant to equip them with skills to venture into various small-scale businesses as part of the government’s empowerment drive.

Speaking at the launch of the programme, Mercy Sibanda, wife to commander of Zimbabwe Defence Forces General Philip Sibanda, said the training would enable beneficiaries to engage in businesses of their choice.

She urged the participants to take the training seriously as it will not only help them, but communities they lived in as well.

In addition to the training, the participants were given starter packs with inputs for their various income generating projects.

This is the latest in a series of such training and empowerment programmes the the First Lady has initiated and sponsored countrywide.

The training in Harare is being conducted in conjunction with the Ministry of
Women’s Affairs.
