Harare, (New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) on Wednesday increased the prices of fuel by around 30 percent, taking the price of petrol to $93.15 and diesel to $$83.36 per litre respectively.

The review, which is effective immediately, comes exactly a month after the last hike.

“Please note that the US$ prices of last month at $1.09 for diesel and $1.28 for blend remain unchanged,” the regulator said.

“Operators may however sell at prices below the cap depending on their trading advantages.”

Fuel largely remains in short supply, even after the government allowed some service stations to sell the commodity in foreign currency.

And while availability is significantly better for those who can afford to buy in foreign currency, those who cannot have to endure not only long queues, but also go for long periods without as retailers would not have received the commodity.

Fuel is one of the country’s top imports and its availability has in the past five years been erratic owing to foreign currency shortages that the economy continues to grapple with.
