Gokwe (New Ziana) –A beer drinking spree ended in tragedy when a Gokwe teenager was allegedly stabbed to death by a fellow 17-year-old juvenile over an undisclosed matter on Sunday.

Police have since identified the deceased as Meli Mlingo of Mhlauli Village, Chief Mahliwa in Nkayi while the suspect Leon Moyo from the same village has been nabbed and is assisting police with investigations.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said police in Gokwe are investigating the murder case in which Mlingo was found dead at Dumizweni Village near Naje Business Centre under Chief Mukoka in Gokwe with a stab wound on his back.

It is alleged that on August 28, Mlingo was coming from a beer drinking spree with his friends at Naje Business Centre and he had a misunderstanding with the suspect, Leon Moyo over an undisclosed matter.

“It is alleged Moyo drew an Okapi knife and stabbed Mlingo once on the back. Mlingo walked back to Naje Business Centre to seek assistance while breeding profusely. He collapsed while on the way and died. The body was discovered the following morning by a passer-by who made a report to the police,” said Insp. Mahoko.

Police attended the scene and Moyo was arrested.

“We appeal to members of the public to solve their differences amicably either by engaging a third party than the use of violence as it results in loss of life like what happened in this case,” said Insp. Mahoko.
