Gokwe- (New Ziana)-A 28-year-old man was robbed of US$4 500 and 18 000 Rands by three men who waylaid him while on his way home in Njelele, Gokwe.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said police are investigating the case that resulted in Brian Jegede losing his foreign currency to the three robbers.

Insp. Mahoko said Jegede was on his way home when three unknown male adults disembarked from a maroon Toyota pro box vehicle which was parked by the roadside.

“The accused persons demanded cash from the complainant and started to assault him. They took the complainant’s satchel which had cash and got into their vehicle before they sped away,” he said.

The matter was reported to the police who attended the scene, but the suspects are still at large.

The police are appealing to anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspects to report to the nearest police station.

“We urge members of the public not to walk around with large sums of money, rather it should be banked,” Mahoko said.

Meanwhile in another incident, police have launched a man hunt for a gang of five men who attacked and robbed a family in Gweru.

“The incident occurred on 9 February 2021 at around 0300 hours in Mkoba 18 Gweru where the complainant was asleep in her bedroom,” Inspector Mahoko said.

“It is alleged that two of the five suspects entered the house through a bathroom window while the other suspects remained outside. One of the suspects who entered the house was armed with a pistol.

“The suspects robbed the complainant of a P36 Itel cell phone and demanded cash from her while threatening to kill her if she refused, they ransacked the house and took cash amounting to US$811,R350 and RTGS600 including four other cell phones.”

The suspects tied the complainant’s legs and forced her young sister and her husband’s young brother to cover their faces and lay down.

After committing the robbery, the suspects disappeared into the darkness.

“Total value of stolen property is US$1 101, R350 and RTGS600 and nothing was recovered.”

The report was made at ZRP Nehanda and the suspects are still at large.

Mahoko appealed to members of the public who might have information that may lead to the arrest of these suspects to make reports to any police station, make use of their suggestion boxes or to use ZRP WhatsApp platforms.
