MARONDERA– The Government has been applauded for its commitment in developing communities from all corners of the country through the devolution agenda.
Commissioning Gutu Secondary School in Murehwa district’s Ward 8 last week, the Minister of State for Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution Advocate Itayi Ndudzo said the Second Republic is walking its talk by implementing developmental projects that are leaving no-one and no place behind.
The school was constructed using part of devolution funds that were allocated to Murehwa Rural District Council (RDC), with two blocks of four classroom blocks are now have were completed and now open to learners.
Murehwa RDC is also working closely with the local community and a staff house is being constructed and at 90 percent completion, while a solar powered borehole was installed to ensure uninterrupted water supply for teachers, learners and members of the community.
“There are many developmental that are being introduced and implemented by the Government under the astute leadership of President Mnangagwa. Through devolution funds that are availed to councils in all parts of the country, the local authorities have been able to complete many projects that include the construction of schools, clinics and other infrastructure.
“I applaud the Murehwa RDC for its honesty and hard work when it comes to service delivery. Villagers put their effort in this project and that is commendable. What we are witnessing today is a reminder of the Government’s fulfillment of the development mantra,” Advocate Ndudzo said.
Beneficiaries of the school, specifically learners, were implored to work hard and mould a future for themselves while parents and guardians were challenged to send their children to school.
Advocate Ndudzo said: “The young children are the leaders of tomorrow. To the learners present here today, I want to challenge you to focus on your education as it moulds you to become the person whom you want to be in future. Guardians and parents must ensure that they support the learners to excel. In a nutshell, this school must be fully utilised.”
Murehwa North legislator Daniel Garwe, who was represented by his personal assistant Keith Chimbangu, thanked the Government for availing devolution funds that have gone a long way in easing financial woes that are faced by local authorities.
Local councillor, Masimba Gumira appealed to the Government to construct more secondary schools in the Ward.
He said: “This is a positive development in our Ward. However, my appeal is for the Government to help in constructing more secondary schools not only in this Ward, but in the district as a whole.”
Construction of Gutu Secondary School commenced seven years ago and the Murehwa RDC has plans to build more secondary schools in the Ward 8.
