Harare, (New Ziana) – The government has disowned a social media post claiming the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries Water and rural Development had partnered some development partners to distribute funds to farmers in the country.
Writing on his X handle, the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Anxious Masuka urged farmers and other stakeholders to ignore the claims.
The post is disguised as belonging to Masuka, and claims that the Ministry in collaboration with the World Food Programme and Perennial Farmers Enterprise Network had joined forces to give funding to hardworking farmers to boost their ventures.
“We are delighted to announce a grant funding opportunity for farmers across the country, brought to you in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, the World Food Programme and the Perennial Farmers Enterprise Network,” it says.
“We believe this funding will be a great relief to our hardworking farmers (who) are passionate about advancing their farming ventures,” said the post. The post invited individuals, groups, companies, cooperatives to submit their grant applications online through a provided link.
Masuka said the account was fraudulent, and advised stakeholders to ignore it. “This is a scam attempt aimed at deceiving our valued stakeholders and defrauding them of their hard-earned money,” he said.
