Harare (New Ziana) – Government is committed to funding the construction and setting up of radio and television transmission sites across the country to ensure universal access of both mediums of information, a Cabinet Minister has said.
Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said this at a strategic planning workshop for Transmedia Corporation, the country’s TV and Radio signal carrier.
She said Transmedia, on its part, should devise strategies whose outcome ensured universal access to TV and Radio.
She said citizens should have access to information which outlined national development strategies inorder for them to move in sync with national objectives.
Mutsvangwa also urged Transmedia to brace for the coming on board of more players into the broadcasting sector.
She encouraged Transmedia to fully and profitably utilize its internet service license to:”Navigate the complexities of technology convergence (and) to be always in conversation with other technology based sectors such as telecommunications and banking infrastructure to accelerate the attainment of vision 2030.”
Mutsvangwa encouraged Transmedia to consider solar as an alternative power source to guarantee signal delivery even during power outages.
Transmedia board chairperson, Ambassador Mary Mubi who is in Dubai as commissioner general of the Zimbabwe Pavilion at Expo2020 Dubai virtually attended the conference.
Mubi acknowledged government’s support to Transmedia.
