Harare, (New Ziana) –The government has frozen the sale of urban state land and announced measures to enhance its administration and management.
Urban State land has widely been abused with land barons taking advantage to set up illegal settlements housing large numbers of people often forcing authorities to find ways of regularizing them.
In a statement, The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works which is mandated to administer all State land, declared an immediate moratorium on all allocations of Urban State Land until further notice.
It said the decision is meant to allow its ongoing review process to strengthen the policy framework and guidelines governing the management of the finite national resource, which is central to Zimbabwe’s development as outlined in the National Development Strategy 1 and Vision 2030.
“It is imperative that we have an efficient and transparent system in place to ensure Urban State Land facilitates sustainable and functional developments,” read part of the statement.
The Ministry urged the public and stakeholders to exercise patience as it concludes its review aimed at enhancing the administration and utilization of Urban State Land for the benefit of the nation.
