Harare (New Ziana)-The Government has presented “an improved” salary offer to civil servants in a bid to lure them to return to work full-time, worker’s representatives said on Saturday.

In a statement, the Apex Council which represents the workers, said government offered the better salary offer at Friday’s meeting held under the banner of the National Joint Negotiating Council.

“The National Joint Negotiating Council meeting (on Friday) agreed to adjourn to Monday 16 December 2020 to further consult their constituencies on an improved offer brought forth by the employer,” said the Apex Council in a communique released after the meeting.

The Apex Council did not however disclose the latest salary offer from government.

“Since the figures are yet to be finalized to the satisfaction of either party, it will be premature to disclose the quantums except to say there has been some tangible progress in the discussion,” said the council.

Previous talks were inconclusive after workers rejected a 40 percent increment, which put the lowest-paid at ZW$13 000.

The workers want government to pay them a monthly salary equivalent of US$500.
