Harare (New Ziana)- The government said on Monday it was investigating reports of an alleged invasion and forcible take-over of a white-owned farm in Ruwa, about 30km east of Harare.

In a tweet, the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services said the government had began investigations to establish facts relating to a social media video purportedly of a white farmer being evicted from his property in Ruwa last week.

Reports of the purported farm grab, allegedly by a senior government official, began circulating on Friday, but there has been no official comment on the matter.

Lately, there have been many stage-managed video recordings in Zimbabwe posted on social media by government critics, portraying violence and human rights violations by the authorities.

This painted a fake picture of a political crisis in the country, leading to regional and international concern.

“We have been made aware of a video depicting an eviction of a farmer and his family. Government is trying to establish the facts behind this matter. What is known so far is that there is a legacy legal issue between the parties and the matter is being dealt with by the courts,” the Ministry said.
