Harare (New Ziana) – The government completed 657 high impact projects countrywide out of the 1 688 it had on its books last year spanning across several sectors as it marches full steam ahead with building solid infrastructure using own funds, Cabinet said on Wednesday.
Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said the report on projects implemented by the Second Republic in 2021 was presented to Cabinet by Minister of State for Presidential Affairs and Monitoring Implementation of Government Programmes, Jorum Gumbo. “The nation is being informed that 1 688 projects were implemented during the period January to December 2021. Out of the 1 688 projects, 657 projects are fully completed while implementation of 1 031 is ongoing,” she said during a post Cabinet briefing.
“The projects include infrastructure and utilities (roads, airports, dams, irrigation, housing, energy); human capital development (construction of schools, provision of ICT equipment); social protection (support for the elderly, the Basic Education Assistance Module); health and well-being (provision of an enabling environment for health service delivery.”
A summary of the distribution of the projects according to provinces shows that in Harare 79 projects were completed while 103 were ongoing.
In Bulawayo, government completed 30 projects leaving a balance of 39, in Manicaland 84 had been completed while 190 remained.
In Matabeleland North 68 projects were done while 142 remained outstanding.
“The robust implementation of the projects bears testimony to the Second Republic’s commitment towards accelerating the betterment of livelihoods of the people of Zimbabwe in tandem with the National Vision of attaining an Upper Middle-Income Society by 2030,” she said.
