    Gweru leads Covid 19 booster jabs in Midlands

    Gweru (New Ziana) – Gweru district, which includes the city itself, has had more people taking up Covid-19 booster shots than any other area in the Midlands province, health officials here said on Thursday.
    A total of 1 204 people in Gweru have had Covid-19 booster shots, representing half of the 2 423 people who have received these in the whole of the Midlands province.
    Kwekwe district, with 401 Covid-19 booster shot takers, comes second, followed in third place by Chirumanzu with 263 people.
    Gweru district was one of the Covid-19 hot-spots in Midlands province with a total of 212 deaths, and 4 622 infections since the outbreak of the pandemic.
    Kwekwe, with 120 deaths, and 2 407 infections, comes next in the province.
    Overall, the Midlands province has had 496 Covid-19 deaths, 16 995 infections and 15 223 recoveries as at January 18, 2022.
    It is targeting to vaccinate a total of 1 122 474 people to achieve 60 percent regional herd immunity to slow down Covid-19 infections.
