Gweru (New Ziana) – In a movie style robbery, a 32-year-old man was allegedly robbed of US$11 900 cash, cell phones, and a pistol by an eight men gang that pounced on his house in Tatenda Park in Gweru recently.

The robbers allegedly deflated all the tyres of the complainant’s vehicle before they sped off in a getaway car. The total value of the loss is US$12 800.

Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said on June 7 at around 9 PM, the complainant was at home with his family when he heard a car hooting at the gate.

“He took his CZ pistol and proceeded to the gate and found a Mark X motor vehicle parked in front of his gate. The driver asked for directions to a Mr Moyo’s place of residence, where he said he intended to attend a funeral,” he said.

The complainant told the robbers that he did not know Mr Moyo and went back into his yard.

“Suddenly eight unknown men jumped over the perimeter wall into his yard wearing face masks and one was holding a pistol. They demanded cash from the complainant and disarmed him of his CZ pistol,” Insp Mahoko said.

He said they went on to search the house owner and took two cell phones.

“They threatened to shoot him, force-marched him into the house where they ransacked and took US$11 900 from the bedroom,” said Insp Mahoko.

Upon leaving the house, the eight deflated four tyres of the complainant`s motor vehicle and drove away.

Police who attended the crime scene recovered the two cell phones outside the perimeter wall.
