Gweru (The Times-New Ziana) – The Gweru City Council is eager to lure investors who will add value to the city and country to ensure that Zimbabwe becomes an upper middle income economy by 2030.

Speaking during a visit by participants from the Zimbabwe National Defence University, Gweru deputy mayor Cleopas Shiri said the city had investment opportunities in water reticulation, power, transport and other sectors.

“We have investment opportunities, for those who are willing to take up rehabilitation of the water reticulation network and deployment of pre-paid water metering system in the city.

“We are also calling for investors who are willing to rehabilitate our sewer treatment plants and upgrade our reticulation system.

“We have power challenges in Zimbabwe, and as a local authority we have also created investment opportunities for everyone willing to venture into waste to energy power generation for supply into the national grid,” he said.

Shiri said due to current power cuts, the city wanted to explore other power sources.

He said the city was also looking for investors to install solar street lights.

“We also have investment opportunities in our transport sector, to invest in the provision of conventional buses, to construct modern local and regional bus stations and also public convenience facilities at bus stations.

“For those interested in the tourism and hospitality sector, Gweru is the best place to invest. We have land for investors willing to build hotels and conference centres,” he said.

Speaking during the same event, acting town clerk Vakai Chikwekwe said Gweru had quarry mines which interested investors can partner with council.

He also said council’s brewery, Go Beer was still to have takers and investors could also explore that.
