Harare, (New Ziana) – Two men that terrorized Harare
residents by offering them transport but turning around to rob them have
been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment each.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, (NPAZ) said Munyaradzi
Sigareta Zakaria (38) and Zvikomborero Rukoni Zvikoni (29) were
convicted by the Harare Magistrates’ Court on two counts of armed
robbery.
The two lured their victims by offering transport in a white Toyota
Pro-box (registration AGC 3919). They produced knives, threatened the
victims and forcibly took their belongings.
Using this method, the two men along with two accomplices that are still
at large, committed two separate robberies in the capital on October 20,
2023.
In the first count along Harare Drive, Marlborough, they used knives to
threaten Bernadette Yvete Chafachinoyaura and stole her Samsung Galaxy
M02 phone, US$13 and a silver engagement ring among other items.
Along Lomagundi Road in the second incident, they blindfolded Patience
Dadirai Choto, pressed a knife against her and stole her property.
Separately, the NPAZ said Tapiwanashe Murefu (26) of Harare was
sentenced to 15 years for the theft of over US$50 000 from Bhola
Hardware.
The Harare Magistrates’ Court, however, suspended 10 years of the
imprisonment term on condition that Murefu paid US$51 000 to Bhola
Hardware.
He stole US$ 52 000 from Bhola Hardware on March 4, 2023 in Harare with
the aid of accomplices, eight of whom remain at large while three,
Tawanda Mutuma (30), Edmond Nzombe (47), and Jefferes Chapwanyira (29)
were acquitted. Mutuma, a former Bhola Hardware employee, was reportedly
providing insider knowledge to help execute the robbery.
The group, aided by eight others still at large, executed the robbery
using a black Toyota Wish.
