Harare (New Ziana) – Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume will spend the weekend behind bars after the Harare Magistrates court pushed his bail hearing to Monday.

Mafume was arrested this week on charges of criminal abuse of office after he allegedly influenced the allocation of two residential stands in Westlea suburb to his relatives without following due process.

The Magistrate who was supposed to preside over the hearing Bianca Makwande was not available because she had to attend to a work related urgent matter.

Mafume was arrested by the Special Anti-Corruption Unit on Wednesday.

His arrest followed a spate of arrests of Harare City Council big wigs over alleged illegal parcelling out of land in the city.

    The cases are still pending.
