Harare motorist loses car to robbers he offered lift

Harare (New Ziana) -A motorist who lost his vehicle to two unknown men who he had offered a lift and and three separate murders are among cases the police are investigating around the country.

In a tweet, the police said the carjacking happened on June 30 around 8PM when the two suspects that had been offered a lift from Mabvuku to Glen Norah in the capital pulled out an iron bar and forced the vehicle owner to the back seat.

They stole the man’s Gtel cellphone and later dumped him before driving his Toyota Sienta vehicle towards Glen Norah.

The carjacking comes against the background of repeated police warnings to private motorists against picking up strangers on the road and to passengers to only board registered public transport vehicles to avoid falling victim to such robberies that have become prevalent in the country.

In the first of the murder cases, a man only identified as Thomas died on admission at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals after allegedly being attacked by unknown assailants in Borrowdale. Thomas was found profusely bleeding from the nose when he was rushed to the hospital where he eventually died.

Elsewhere in Mutare, meting out instant justice on a suspected burglar turned tragic when Ashley Siyakuvula (21) died leading to the arrest of Emerson Zviuya (32) and Lucky Nemaunga (42). Zviuya and Nemaunga assaulted Siyakuvula with logs and hose pipes on allegations of housebreaking and theft. Siyakuvula was confirmed dead on arrival at the Victoria Chitepo Hospital (.formerly Mutare General Hospital).

Meanwhile in Mwenezi, Masvingo, the police are looking for 29-year-old Andrew Mazarira in connection with the murder of his mother, Taurai Msungwini (48) of Neshuro village on June 28.

In Bulawayo, Mzilikazi police recovered 9.75kg of copper wire and arrested Charles Mthombeni (37) who had the loot stuffed in a satchel. The police managed to arrest Mthombeni after being tipped off by members of the public.
