Midlands-based Hardrock face a gruelling test of their credentials this week as they embark on a demanding away double fixture. Their campaign begins with a Chibuku Super Cup quarter-final against Scottland FC at Rufaro Stadium today, followed by a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clash with Highlanders in Bulawayo on Saturday.
The four-day stretch presents a major challenge for the ambitious Premiership side, who must quickly switch between cup and league football while facing two of the country’s biggest clubs on the road.
First up is Scottland at Rufaro, with a place in the Chibuku Super Cup semi-finals at stake.
The match is against a Scottland side riding high after progressing past Eswatini champions Nsingizini Hotspurs in the CAF Champions League, as they continue their pursuit of honours on multiple fronts.
However, Hardrock have proven they are capable of competing with the league’s top sides and will be relying on their potent attack, led by Premiership top scorer Washington Navaya and experienced forward Prince Dube.
There will be little time for Hardrock to recover from today’s cup battle, as their attention will immediately shift to Saturday’s league assignment against Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium.
The Bulawayo trip could prove equally demanding, especially as Hardrock must manage player fatigue and the physical demands of two high-profile matches in quick succession.
For the coach and his technical team, squad management will be crucial as they attempt to navigate a schedule with little room for recovery.
While the Chibuku Super Cup offers Hardrock a chance to advance to the last four, Saturday’s league encounter carries its own significance in a Premiership campaign where every point matters.
However, the immediate focus is Rufaro, where Hardrock must first find a way past Scottland.
A victory would not only send them into the Chibuku Super Cup semi-finals, but also provide a major confidence boost ahead of their trip to Bulawayo.
The challenge is clear: overcome Scottland today, recover quickly, and then face Bosso in Bulawayo three days later.
