A 54-year-old Shamva man allegedly took advantage of his wife’s absence from home and
    raped his 14-year-old stepdaughter.
Trackson Chipere of Ponde Farm in Shamva, pleaded guilty when he appeared before
Bindura Magistrate Amos Mubhobho, who slapped him with a 16-year custodial sentence
before suspending two years on condition of good behaviour for the next five years.
Appearing for the State, Tracy Dube submitted that sometime in November last year just after
midnight, the complainant was asleep in her bedroom together with her two younger sisters,
aged nine and six. Their mother was admitted in hospital.
Chipere entered the children’s bedroom as the door was not locked. While inside, Chipere
realised that the girl’s young sisters were fast asleep.
Chipere forcibly took off the complainant’s clothes before ordering her to keep quiet
threatening to beat or kill her.
After removing her pant, Chipere fondled her breasts and caressed her privates before
removing his shorts and raped her once.
The matter came to light when complainant told her aunt about the incident. This led to his
    arrest.
